The Georgia Bulldogs will play host the Alabama Crimson Tide this Saturday in what is the biggest game in years for Mark Richt‘s program. If the Bulldogs can pull off the win over Nick Saban‘s boys, it will essentially eliminate the Crimson Tide from SEC West contention and give Georgia a stranglehold on the SEC East. If the Bulldogs win their division, the team wouldn’t have to face Alabama in the SEC Title Game in December.
With such a big game on the horizon, Richt doesn’t need his team dealing with any distractions so that he can keep their focus on the job at hand–beating Alabama. Unfortunately starting wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie not only created a distraction, but he’s also potentially put himself in serious legal trouble.
According to a police report, McKenzie told a female student that he was “going to call some friends and they were going to come out and he was going to kill her.”
While most will classify this as kids being kids, in this day and age any type of death threat has to be taken seriously because of the horrific violence epidemic we’ve seen recently. So while some of you frat guys might think that she overreacted, she obviously felt threatened enough to involve the police.
In addition to McKenzie, four other football players were listed as witnesses to the incident: safety Dominick Sanders, wide receiver Terry Godwin, linebacker D’Andre Walker and safety Jarvis Wilson.
Hopefully Richt will do the right thing and suspend these five players until the investigation is completed. Winning football games is not near as important as the allegations at hand.
