Heading into every college football season, there are plenty of teams talking a big game and raising expectations for the season ahead. Inevitably, many of these teams fall short of such expectations and end up having a rather disappointing season, forcing them to live with that disappointment and regret for the entire offseason. Here are five teams that couldn’t back up their talk in 2015 and will have to live with it until next season.
5. Ohio State

The Buckeyes were supposed to be even better than they were last season. They were the favorites to repeat as national champions this year, but they obviously fell well short that. Ohio State never looked the part of a dominant national champion worthy team in 2015, even as they started the season 10-0 before losing to Michigan State. That loss to the Spartans solidified the fact that Ohio State couldn't back up the hype in 2015.
4. Georgia

Before the season, the Bulldogs looked like they had a rather easy path to the SEC East title and a spot in the SEC Championship Game, but they fell well short of what most thought was inevitable. Georgia finished a solid 9-3, but after getting blown out by Alabama at home and getting dominated by Florida, it became clear that the Bulldogs were nowhere close to living up to expectations. This ultimately cost Mark Richt his job.
3. Oregon

The Ducks eventually came on strong late in the season, but after playing for a national championship last season, Oregon was expecting to return to the College Football Playoff this season. Oregon was outclassed by Michigan State and then lost home games to Utah and Washington State, not only leaving them out of the playoff, but keeping them out of the Pac-12 Championship Game as well. This season was a huge disappointment for the Ducks.
2. Arizona State

After back-to-back 10-win seasons under Todd Graham, the Sun Devils were talking like a team that expected to be competing for a playoff spot in 2015. However, Arizona State took a huge step backwards this season with a 6-6 record. A team with Arizona State's expectations had no business losing to the likes of Cal or Washington State, and several of their other losses were quite lopsided, as they fell well short of expectations in 2015.
1. Auburn

The Tigers were easily the most underachieving team in the country this year. Auburn had visions of winning the SEC West and winning another conference title, but in the end, the Tigers finished last in the SEC West, going 2-6 in conference play and 6-6 overall. The tide has completely turned against Auburn from the preseason talk, as Gus Malzahn is now on the hot seat and the Tigers have a long way to go to get back on top in the SEC West.
