Top 5 NFL Coaches On The Hot Seat Heading Into Week 9

The NFL season has reached its halfway point and we've all gotten, sometimes unfortunately, a good look at each and every team. Some are good, most are not -- see the entire NFC South -- and it's time to take a look a the NFL head coaches whose seats are so hot, it seems as if the sun birthed them.

These are the guys whose pants are on fire.

The New York Jets are 1-7, they've given up the most points this season, and last weekend, their quarterback (Geno Smith) completed more passes to the other team than he did to his own -- 2-of-8 for five yards and three INTs. Yet, Rex Ryan said Smith was fine? Oh, really? On what planet is a performance like that fine?

Ryan stated that Michael Vick will be his quarterback moving forward. Sorry, Sexy Rexy, too little, too late.

Facing the prospect of a second-straight season without a trip to the postseason, Tom Coughlin -- the only NFL head coach with senior citizen discount status -- could be on his way out of the Garden State. The New York Giants rank among the league's mediocre or worse on both sides of the ball, and their playoff dreams are nothing but a flickering light at the end of a dark tunnel.

Retirement is knocking at Coughlin's door.

Go to Chicago, they said. You develop quarterbacks, so you'll get along with Jay Cutler and help him get to the next level, they said. It'll be fun, they said.

They lied. They all lied.

Since going 13-3 in 2012, Mike Smith and his Atlanta Falcons are 6-18. They're on pace to match last season's 4-12 record, and while it'll only be the second losing season in Smith's seven-year tenure with the Falcons, he's on the hot seat.

After all, it's inexcusable to waste the primes of Matt Ryan, Julio Jones and Roddy White. Oh wait, White's prime was already wasted.

Since Gus Bradley took over in 2013, he has led the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 5-19 record. This year, his squad ranks 27th in passing yards, 25th in rushing yards, 27th in passing yards allowed, and 20th in rushing yards allowed, which is all horrible. But wait, it gets worse, their point differential is -100.

Enough said.
