NHL preseason games have already begun, but teams aren’t done reworking and retooling their rosters for the start of the 2014-15 season. Despite being late in the offseason, there are still big moves that can and in many cases will happen. These moves will surely alter the NHL landscape going into the start of the season.

While this is a longshot of all longshots, the Blue Jackets’ rising star has yet to ink a deal with Columbus and could be looking elsewhere. The restricted free agent could even levy his time in the KHL into a richer contract with the Jackets as they will miss his services.

The Bruins are trying to re-sign Torey Krug and Reilly Smith, and they are short on cap space, Boychuk’s deal, which expires at the end of the season, could be moved to facilitate these signings. The Oilers and Islanders are both young teams that have a plethora of forwards but are short on defensemen. Of all possible deals, Boychuk to either of these teams seems the most likely.

The team has been desperate for a first line center to pair with star winger Phil Kessel all offseason. While it may be a little too late in the offseason, the Leafs would surely pull the trigger if a player like Joe Thornton or Eric Staal suddenly became available via trade.

The former captain of the Ottawa Senators has said he’ll either retire or return to Detroit where he spent the 2013-14 season. While I think “Alfie” is leaning towards retirement, he still has something left in the tank and would again be a positive addition to the Red Wings.
