The NFL owners appear to be very unified on their stance of having an 18 game regular season and making the players earn less money, Jacksonville Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver is one of them. The Jacksonville Jaguars are one of the teams which is constantly brought up in relocation rumors to be a possible team which moves to Los Angeles. The Jaguars were able to sell out every home game this season and avoid local blackouts for their games.

Weaver is quoted in the Jacksonville Business Journal as being in favor of an 18 game season and the reduction of salaries to players by 18% in order to deal with higher operating expenses. “Every dollar we take in in our clubs costs more than it did five or six years ago. The players have to understand before we divide up the pie, there are costs to be reorganized”.

Weaver went on to tell the paper that one of the reasons that he supports a reduction in pay to the players is because the Jaguars stadium needs between $3 to $4 million dollars for new digital televisions in the stadium and millions more for a new digital scoreboard.

So, in a nutshell, Mr. Weaver wants the players to work more and earn less as they pay for infrastructure at the stadium.

Mr. Weaver created his wealth as the creator of shoe store chains, Nine West and Shoe Carnival.
