2013 NFL Draft: Ezekiel Ansah’s Mom Was Hoping Utah Would Draft Her Son

(Brad Penner/USA Today Sports)

When looking at the results of the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft, it’s safe to say the Detroit Lions may have selected one of the top picks in Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah out of BYU as the defensive end has seen his draft stock rise like crazy over the last couple of weeks. Ansah has one of the best feel-good stories from this year’s draft class as the newest member of the Lions is originally from Ghana and while it was great to see his mom, Elizabeth Cole, make the trip to New York City to watch her son–she may need to touch up on her knowledge of NFL teams now that Ziggy is in the pros.

Apparently, Ziggy’s mom was hoping there was a chance of her son landing with a team in Utah despite Detroit selecting him at No. 5. The conversation came up when Cole was talking to BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall after he was selected by the Lions.

While it’s difficult to give Ziggy’s mom a hard time considering she’s not familiar with the NFL like her son, you can’t help but laugh at a story like this since there’s no professional football team in football (hopefully all of you readers realized this by now). Either way, if Elizabeth didn’t know much about the NFL before, it’s safe to say she will most likely learn pretty quick now that her son Ziggy has the potential to become the next biggest defensive star in Detroit.
