Dirk Nowitzki is one of the most popular players in the NBA and that popularity grew incredibly when he finally won his first title with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011. There are two other interesting facts about Nowitzki that make him special: he has a superb sense of humor and a genuine love for soccer. He showed a little of both in a recent celebrity soccer match.
As seen in the video above taken during the match in Wurzburg, Germany, Dirk faked a fall while dribbling down the far sideline and then rolled over smiling, much to the hesitant delight of basketball fans everywhere who suffered through the 2013 NBA Finals.
There were so many blatantly missed calls due to flopping in the NBA Finals that it can be argued the outcome of the series varied at least three different times as to which team would have won and the number of games in which that team would have done so.
Nowitzki has been very vocal about the NBA’s enforcement of its new rule against flopping, but also said he doesn’t have a problem with “minor flopping” and believes the NBA will never get rid of the despicable act altogether. But leave it up to Dirk to have a little fun with the controversy during a German celebrity event.
