To call Johnny Gomes a Boston Red Sox fan-favorite would be a drastic understatement. This guy might just be more popular than Kevin Garnett, Manny Ramirez and Tim Thomas combined! With that being said, none of those Boston icons ever gave away free beer after winning the division, so it looks like Gomes has a head start in this popularity contest. So, there you have it. Gomes has celebrated a divisional title for the second straight season like only he can. The Oakland Athletics decided to let Gomes walk this off-season after the wild-eyed left fielder was probably giving too many brews away — you know how cheap those Athletics’ front office people are. Even still, Boston is the fourth city that Gomes has called home in the last four years, and it’s safe to say that his fun-loving attitude has been a hit with the Red Sox fan base.
