In a bizarre story from the NFL, it appears that Todd Herremans may have been the victim of a financial crime. The Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman allegedly has had $225,000 stolen from him by a team parking lot attendant. The man accused of the crime is not a direct employee of the Eagles, but he does have access to the players’ cars. He’s accused of taking Herremans’ checking account number and wiring over $225k into his own account.

If the man accused of the crime (Robert Von Ryan) is convicted, he faces up to 30 years in jail.

From the sounds of it, he did this over a period of time. The transactions are said to have taken place between 2009 and 2012, so he was apparently implementing a strategy from the movie Office Space. Herremans would certainly have noticed a quarter mil missing from his account, but a few thousand dollars here and there, apparently went unnoticed for awhile.

In case you’re wondering, the OL just started a new deal last season. He’s currently under contract with Philly until 2017 and he’s set to make an average of $5.4 million/year until then.

Von Ryan is certainly a weasel if he did commit this crime. But at the same time, Herremans shouldn’t have left bank documents in his car. I don’t care where you’re parking, there’s always a chance of someone tampering with your vehicle and its contents. I’m going to guess that he’ll be a little more careful in that department moving forward.
