Day no. 5 of competition at the 2014 Winter Olympics brought all kinds of interesting storylines. As some of the individual events begin wrapping up, other tournaments are just heating up and others just beginning.

The U.S. women took a very painful loss to Canada in the Group A hockey prelims. A stalemate through almost two periods, American goaltender Jamie Vetter was dialed in and Hilary Knight scored first for Team USA. After Meghan Acosta tied the game, Canada took the lead from a horrendous call on a Hayley Wickenheiser goal that absolutely should have been disallowed. Despite every video replay available showing that the referee's whistle had clearly blown prior to the puck crossing the line, the goal stood. Even after a big late-game push, Canada was able to hold on for a 3-2 victory.

The Men's hockey tournament began today as Swedish goaltender Henrik Lundqvist handed the Czech Republic their first loss in the Group C prelims. The United States also announced that goaltender Jonathan Quick would get the start tomorrow over predicted starter Ryan Miller.

China continued making their case as a curling powerhouse with a statement win over Germany in the fifth session of the men's round robin. Still relatively new in the curling world, China has been making waves across the tournament thus far.

Another snowboarding gold medal went to an American woman, as Kaitlyn Farrington took the gold in ladies' halfpipe. Teammate Kelly Clark took the bronze, with Australian Torah Bright grabbing a silver.

All results are final unless otherwise noted.
