It was a spontaneous act of charity, but he and many other athletes have started foundations or connected to non-profit organizations. These athletes use their fortune to give back. There are many others not on this list such as Andy Roddick, David Beckham and Calvin Johnson. Let's celebrate the good guy athlete.

The Pujols Family Foundation was started to help families affected by Down Syndrome. It is run by Albert and his wife. The Foundation also helps impoverished areas of the Dominican Republic and was founded in 2005.

Andre Agassi may be out of tennis, but he has not stopped giving back. He founded his charity in 2001 and has helped to give over $ 60 million to children in need. He has played in many charity matches including a yearly tournament for cancer research. He also runs a prep academy in Las Vegas. It has been reported that he has helped raise over $ 175 million in total.

Derek Jeter started the Turn 2 Foundation in 1996. The aim of the foundation is to award grants to provide support and activities to keep kids away from alcohol and drugs. He has raised somewhere close to $ 20 million. Jeter has also been involved with Soles4Souls, a shoe program for the impoverished.

Mutombo was recognized a Special Olympics Global Ambassador in 2012 and is one of many athletes who promote UNICEF. He facilitates NBA Cares clinic in Africa and works with FACE Africa to fight poverty in Liberia and Sierra Leone. His own foundation has built a hospital in Congo and aims to continue to provide valuable resources.

In 2007, Eli Manning committed to building a clinic at the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children. He raised about half a million dollars over the initial goal for the clinic. Other charities Manning supports include the Phoenix House, the Red Cross and the St. Francis Food Pantries and Shelters.

He raises money for children battling cancer through the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation and aids the elderly through his partnership with sponsor AARP’s Drive to End Hunger program. A visit to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. in the early '90s was all it took for Gordon to get involved, and he states his programs are exceeding expectations.

Larry Fitzgerald has always been a class act. He started the First Down Fund to help children find beneficial activities and programs throughout the year. He contributes to various organizations that meet a certain criteria including those supporting kids and families in crisis and health-related organizations that work with families. He also works with the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center, Oxfam and USAID.

The Foundation run by Polamalu and his wife gives humanitarian aid to American Samoa as well as backing to the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital and FOCUSNA. The Harry Panos Foundation for Veterans supports Operation Once in a Lifetime and the Pittsburgh VA Hospital.
