Top 25 Athletes We Love to Root Against

We all have those athletes we just can't stand to see do well. It sounds pretty harsh, but sometimes we just want those sports stars to fail and prove you right. For whatever reason, you just can't stand seeing them succeed. Maybe they're cocky, maybe they win too much or maybe they just don't know how to handle success.

Let's take a look at the 25 athletes we love to root against.

25. Roy Hibbert, Indiana Pacers

As an NBA All-Star and physically one of the biggest guys in the NBA, you would think Roy Hibbert would live up to his potential. However, he takes his skill for granted and doesn't use his body like he should. The big guy has become lazy and a poor team player recently.

24. Grant Balfour, Tampa Bay Rays

Grant Balfour's rage is annoying to a lot of fans and even fellow players -- just ask Victor Martinez. No fan or player likes to see a cocky pitcher celebrate every time he gets an out.

23. Chris Bosh, Miami Heat

How could you root for Bosh at this point. He, like Hibbert, doesn't live up to his potential and that has to be annoying as a fan of the sport. If you're almost 7-foot tall, you shouldn't be playing around the perimeter.

22. Manti Te'o, San Diego Chargers

He lied to an entire nation about the passing of his girlfriend and then blamed it on a hoax -- even though he knew for months that it was false. America still hasn't forgiven him yet.

21. Jonathan Papelbon, Philadelphia Phillies

Jonathan Papelbon is a fiery pitcher like Balfour and it's hard to root for a guy like that in baseball because it's such a classy sport. You don't celebrate after every out or call out your own fans.

20. Mark Sanchez, Philadelphia Eagles

Mark Sanchez is the NFL's pretty boy and it's pretty annoying. He cares more about appearing in magazines or modeling ads than he does about throwing the football around.

19. Chad Johnson, NFL

You have to root against a guy like Chad Johnson at this point. He had done nothing but run his mouth while he was still playing in the NFL and when he almost got another chance with the Dolphins, he got arrested for a domestic dispute with his wife.

18. Andrew Bynum, NBA Free Agent

Bynum is the epitome of a locker room cancer and it's hard to see a guy go from being regarded as one of the best big men in the NBA to an absolute joke. Any team that has given Bynum a chance has regretted it big time.

17. Tom Brady, New England Patriots

As one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, Tom Brady is bound to get some hate. I mean, he wins too much and it's annoying for the rest of the league. No offense, Tom, but people hate seeing you win titles all the time.

16. Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions

Any guy that can stomp on another player and feel no remorse for doing so definitely belongs on this list. Ndamukong Suh is one of the dirtiest players in the league and not even Lions fans can put up with his antics any longer.

15. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Roethlisberger is known for his sexual assaults on women and getting reprimanded by Roger Goodell for being a bad influence. It's just hard to root for a guy who has no respect for members of the opposite sex.

14. Carmelo Anthony, New York Knicks

Carmelo Anthony is a very talented human being. He is one of the best basketball players in the NBA and still manages to draw hatred from fans because of his selfishness on and off the court. Many think he only cares about the money.

13. Ryan Braun, Milwaukee Brewers

Lying to millions of fans was not the best thing for Ryan Braun to do when it came to his performance-enhancing drug investigation. He even lied to friends and family and claimed he was clean. Who can root for that?

12. A.J. Pierzynski, Boston Red Sox

A.J. Pierzynski always has something to say and that kind of stuff gets really old. Any guy that can't keep his mouth shut on the field and trash talks players as they cross home plate after a home run deserves a spot on a list like this. Not many people root for A.J. and now that he plays for the Red Sox, that won't change.

11. Marshall Henderson, NBA Prospect

Another trash talker on the list. Marshall Henderson is all about "me, me and more me." He's one of those athletes that you would only like if he played for your team, but even then he's hard to root for. Sometimes it's best to just show people you can ball without getting in their face.

10. Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Pirates

It seems like every NHL fan and player dislikes Sidney Crosby. If you are a fan of his, you probably live in Pittsburgh. It's tough to root for a guy who cries about non-calls and backs away from any type of confrontation.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world and he didn't earn the nickname "Money" because he was born into wealth. As a talented boxer like himself, he earns millions of dollars for just showing up to a fight. However, he's a loud mouth and an acquired taste of a person. If you don't love him, you most likely always want him to lose.

8. Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid

Real Madrid is one of the most famous soccer organizations in the world and Cristiano Ronaldo fits right in because he's a very flashy person. Ronaldo is another one of those guys like Crosby who complains about all calls and rarely puts the team first.

7. Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks

Richard Sherman doesn't know the meaning of silence and modesty. He knows he's one of the best defensive backs in the league and he isn't afraid to show it. Sherman knows exactly what it's like to prove doubters wrong -- with his words. He's always trash talking someone who disagrees with him and it's gotten to be a bit obnoxious.

The whole dog-fighting scandal was really off-putting for many former Michael Vick fans. He lost a lot of respect and fans from that controversy and has never recovered. The amount of people who want him out of the league is alarming.

5. Johnny Manziel, Cleveland Browns

Johnny Football likes to party and play football, yet people give him flak for doing so even though his numbers are still stellar. Although he performs well on the field, people will always want him to fail because of his off-field antics.

4. Tim Tebow, NFL Free Agent

Tebow is probably the nicest athlete ever, but he's a terrible quarterback. The only reason people want him to fail is because he's trying to do something that he has no chance to ever excel at -- playing QB in the NFL. His constant religious statements are too much as well. Tebow needs to change positions and stop trying to be everyone's friend and people might root for him more.

3. Dwight Howard, Houston Rockets

Dwight Howard is known as a big baby because of the way he got himself out of Orlando as well as Los Angeles. He complained his way out and didn't quite give his full effort close to the end of his time at each destination. Oh yeah, and he got a solid NBA coach fired in Stan Van Gundy -- and he still left Orlando.

A liar, cheater and snake. Do I need any more reasons as to why everyone roots against Alex Rodriguez?

As the best player in the NBA right now, you either love LeBron or hate him. In many cases, the hate is much stronger for the former MVP. He joined forces with two other superstars to win titles -- you didn't see Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson do that.
