Following his century in the fifth and final ODI match against Sri Lanka, Indian batsman Virat Kohli became the quickest to 21 ODI centuries. His century came within just 138 innings, passing the previous record of 200 innings set by Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli notched his first 50-over century against Sri Lanka back in 2009 at the Eden Gardens. Some might say, however, that Kohli just performs best agaisnt Sri Lanka.

He has six of his 21 ODI centuries against Sri Lanka.

At just 26 years of age, it’s expected Kohli will continue adding to his list of records for years to come. Potentially most important of all, India is 19-2 in the 21 matches Kohli has centuried in.

Kohli is now tied for fifth on the list of cricketers with the most ODI centuries. On the list with him is Herschelle Gibbs, Chris Gayle, Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting and of course, Tendulkar. Kohli is just one ODI century short of Ganguly’s record.

Kohli was also recently appointed an ambassador for the ICC 2015 World Cup co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

“It is a matter of pride to be selected as the ambassador of ICC,” Kohli said in a formal statement. “I thank ICC for bestowing this honour upon me. As a cricketer, I wish to spread the passion of cricket to grassroot levels and I look at this as an opportunity to unify global initiatives for cricket throughout the world.”
