In what will be his debut as India’s Test captain, Virat Kohli said he’s ready for what may the biggest test of his career. Kohli will be India’s 32nd Test captain as MS Dhoni will miss the start of the series due to a wrist injury.

Being a player and a captain are two very different things. The pressure Kohli will face as a captain is much more pressure than what he would have felt as just a player.

“Well that’s for me to know and for me to experience,” Kohli said, referring to the added pressure.

“I’ve played against him [Peter Siddle], he’s quite a competitive guy so I’m not surprised there’s already some banter starting from that end … (and) I don’t mind all that.

“I love leading the side. I love being captain. “I don’t see any issues on why I can’t be up to the challenge.”

Kohli won’t have any issues has he has filled in for Dhoni in the past. Kohli knows what it takes to handle different situations, and despite the added pressure, Kohli will thrive.

“As long as the team backs me and puts in the performances we want, I think I’m going to look good at the end of the day,” Kohli added.

India is just 3-14 playing away from India in the last four years.
