Misbuh-ul-Haq, Pakistan cricket captain, announced recently he will retire from ODIs after the World Cup. He said the decision is largely made in an effort to focus more on Test cricket.

Just how good has he been for Pakistan? The 40-year-old cricketer set a record in 2014 for the most Test wins by a Pakistan captain. He made his ODI debuted in 2002, captained Pakistan in 78 games and has scored 4,669 runs. That’s an average of 42.83 in 153 ODIs.

“Test cricket remains the ultimate test for me and we have tough series coming against England and India,” Misbah said.

To date, he has played 29 Twenty20 internationals, most recently coming in 2012.

“I took the decision to retire after much thought and feel this is the best time to go from ODIs,” Misbah said. “The World Cup is my last ODI venture.”

“He has been a big source of inspiration for the Pakistan team since the spot-fixing scandal and it is his personal decision to retire from ODIs after the World Cup,” Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Shaharyar Khan said.

The World Cup in Australia and New Zealand starts on February 12. Pakistan’s opening Pool B game against India is in Adelaide on February 15.
