There have been some fantastic performances on the football field today. Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck broke the rookie passing record. Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure recorded 3 touchdowns in the first half. Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson ran for 100+ and reached the end zone twice before it was even halftime. And the Chicago Bears D/ST probably outscored some teams out there, hey I’m just saying.

Even with all these great efforts today, none were greater than Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Doug Martin who EXPLODED today against the Oakland Raiders. It was a wild one in Oakland today, as both teams eclipsed 30+ points, Tampa with 42 to be exact. Oh, and it finally happened. Raiders RB Darren McFadden has been injured after playing healthy for a whole half of a season. Nothing we haven’t seen before, right? X-Rays were negative though so maybe the injury isn’t that severe.

Back to the young buck from Boise State, Doug Martin. 22 carries, 251 rushing yards, and 4 touchdowns. Oh, and four catches for 21 yards for those of you in PPR formats. Martin amassed 52.60 standard scoring fantasy points, and is easily the top rusher for week 9. Unless someone in the final two games of the week lose their minds on the field, Doug Martin will be fantasy MVP of week 9 hands down.

The 52 fantasy points Martin scored are a season high for any player in fantasy football this year. Doug Martin is the first player in NFL history with three rush touchdowns of 45+ yards in a game. Martin scored from 45, 67, 70, and from one yard out late in the 4th quarter to top it off.

Doug Martin’s 251 rushing yards are the most by a rookie since Adrian Peterson ran wild for an NFL record 296 rushing yards in 2007.  It’s official, folks, Doug Martin is the real deal and is looking to be fantasy gold from here on out for his owners. Today’s performance was easily the best of the week and maybe for the season.
