2013 Fantasy Baseball: Mike Trout Is No. 1 Pick Right Now

The 2013 Major League Baseball season is just around the corner, and it has got me thinking about fantasy baseball. There are several players who could be the top pick in fantasy baseball drafts in 2013. I have my eye on one player that could be the top player from start to finish in Mike Trout. I don’t think Trout will suffer with a sophomore slump and he will excel once again in 2013.

Trout has that powerful Los Angeles Angels lineup to help support his quest to win MVP with Josh Hamilton now added to the lineup to go with Albert Pujols. Trout, Hamilton and Pujols could all be taken within the first ten picks of the draft by savvy fantasy baseball owners. I think Trout will finish the 2013 season with another year of batting over .300 with 20-25 home runs and 80-85 RBIs, which are amazing numbers from the leadoff spot.

There are going to be owners who will shy away from Trout thinking that there is no way that he can match what he did in 2012, and I would tell those owners now that bypassing Trout could be the biggest mistake they make in the 2013 draft. I believe there are just two players worthy of the top pick anyway, in Trout and Miguel Cabrera. At this point in time, I’m leaning towards Trout as my No. 1 pick in 2013. The lineup is just too strong and the talent too talented around him for Trout not to have a great year in 2013 for fantasy baseball.
