With the calendar now turned to February, the time has come for fantasy baseball to begin heating up. There will be drafts to do and preparation that goes into full swing in the couple weeks. I highlight one particular player here in Starlin Castro, who should be a high draft pick. Castro is probably in the top five for shortstops this season for fantasy baseball.

Castro is getting some help finally with the Chicago Cubs as Anthony Rizzo matures and the team makes other moves around the 22-year old. I really think Castro is going to find himself hitting in the fifth spot in the Chicago order this season right after Alfonso Soriano. Castro is a hits machine and has been since coming into Major League Baseball. If you can draft a player that you can about guarantee will have close to 200 hits for the season, you make the move to get him.

If I was drafting right now, I would take Castro in the third round around pick 35. I can’t think of many shortstops that I would want over Castro at this point. Castro is going to continue getting better and if the Cubs can make some more moves to improve the team, Castro should hit very comfortably in the No. 6 hole in the lineup sooner than later. At this point though, Castro is going to be counted on as a run-producer which helps fantasy owners greatly, so jump all over Castro as soon as you can and get that position filled by someone who will play all 162 games.
