Fantasy Hockey: Steven Stamkos Was Worthy of First Round Pick

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

One of the most popular first round picks this fantasy hockey season was Tampa Bay Lightning C Steven Stamkos.

However, oddly enough, Stamkos has been one of the only first round picks that has actually lived up to expectations. Most people think first round picks are automatic, but if fantasy has taught us anything, it is that nothing is guaranteed.

Stamkos is currently leading the entire NHL with 21 goals and is one of fantasy’s deadliest scorers. The 23-year-old has matured into an assassin on the ice and has one of the best wrist shots in the game. He has shockingly scored 81 goals in his last 112 games, and the veteran seems like he is scoring a goal in every game.

Stamkos has also been a reliable source of assists for fantasy owners, so don’t think that he is just a goal scorer. Stamkos has helped on 19 goals this year and is ranked second in the NHL with 40 points. He is currently averaging 1.33 points per game this season and trails just Pittsburgh Penguins C Sidney Crosby in points.

Stamkos will be one of the best centers in fantasy for the remainder of the season. He will continue to score and distribute the puck for fantasy owners and will remain a must start game after game.
