2013 Fantasy Baseball: SS Everth Cabrera Stealing Show This Year

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

The most exciting aspect of fantasy baseball is obviously home runs. There is nothing better than hearing the crack of the bat and seeing a ball go sailing over the fence.

However, seeing a speedy player dash the 90 feet from first to second in an attempt to steal the base has to be the second most exciting play. There are close to a dozen elite base stealers in the game, but right now the best in the business has to be San Diego Padres SS Everth Cabrera.

As expected, Cabrera is currently leading the entire MLB with 19 stolen bases. He stole an amazing 44 bases in 2012 and it appears that he will crush that total in 2013. Cabrera is literally running every time he gets onto first base and has to be the most dangerous player on the base path in fantasy this season.

Cabrera has also matured in the batter’s box in 2013. In the last four contests, Cabrera has two singles, two doubles, and two homers. He has driven in five runs in the process and has quickly become one of the best fantasy options at the position. Cabrera’s former career-high was two home runs, but the shortstop has already smashed four this season and has shown unprecedented power.

Cabrera gets the green light every time he gets on first and will easily finish with over 50 steals this year. The stopgap’s staggering steal totals will keep him active in all fantasy formats and make him a superstar in any roto-league.
