5 Cowboys Players to Target for Fantasy Owners

With training camp under way and the Dallas Cowboys getting ready to play in the Hall-of-Fame game, there are many questions surrounding the team. Owner Jerry Jones hired Bill Callahan to take over the play-calling duties from head coach Jason Garrett, who had been in the role since Wade Phillips was fired in 2010.

This isn't the only question surrounding the Cowboys, of course. Many fans are wondering if Tony Romo will finally step up and be the leader the Cowboys hoped he would turn into when they signed him. Even though he only has one playoff win under his belt, Jones gave him a big extension during the offseason.

What about DeMarco Murray? Can he stay healthy? How will the defense respond under new coordinator Monte Kiffin? Having one of the best defensive players in the NFL with Demarcus Ware, the Cowboys are hoping they can get to the quarterback a lot this year. These are some other questions that fans want answers to.

Not only are Cowboys fans asking this about their team, but fantasy owners are asking the same questions. With fantasy football being played every week in offices all over the country, this is the time owners start preparing for their fantasy draft. People start analyzing who the best quarterback is in the league or who the no. 1 running back should be. In what round should I pick a team defense? These questions are being asked by thousands of people all over the country.

With fantasy owners hoping to secure a place among the best in their league this season, there will no doubt be some people from the Cowboys roster drafted and being played each week. Here is a list of the top five fantasy players for the Cowboys.

5. Team Defense

It's hard to imagine the team defense making this list after the stats they put up last season. The team ranked 24th in team defense and 19th in yards per game. Rob Ryan is out as defensive coordinator and Monte Kiffin is in. Look for the Cowboys to return to form and provide fantasy owners with enough points each week to earn the draft pick.

4. DeMarco Murray

This could be a breakout season for Murray. Last year, he had 663 yards and four touchdowns in only 10 games. Look for the Cowboys to try and utilize his explosiveness and big-play potential more this season.

3. Jason Witten

Witten has always been the most reliable receiving target for quarterback Tony Romo. Whenever the Cowboys are facing a manageable third down situation, more times than not Romo tries to get the ball to Witten, who continually leads the Cowboys in receptions each year.

2. Dez Bryant

There may not be another receiver in football with the talent Dez Bryant has. Bryant will score touchdowns and he will get the yards for the Cowboys. Look for him to only improve on his numbers from last season in which he had 12 touchdowns and 1382 yards.

1. Tony Romo

Quarterback Tony Romo threw for almost 5,000 yards last season. More pressure has been placed on him this season as he was awarded a contract extension. Fans are ready to see Dallas do something beyond the 16-game regular season and in the post season. Cowboy fans are used to seeing their team compete for Super Bowls and they haven't had that since the mid 90s. Romo should have another great season for fantasy owners despite what the final record may be for Dallas.
