Fantasy owners who started Anquan Boldin were rewarded with a monster performance that saw him catch 13 balls for 208 yards and a touchdown. It was one of the best performances by any fantasy player this week. It is easy to see that Boldin will be a favorite target of quarterback Colin Kaepernick this season. However, don’t get too attached to Boldin for Week 2.
Many fantasy owners will see Boldin’s Week 1 performance and will automatically carry him over to Week 2 matchups in hopes of getting an encore performance. Those owners that didn’t start Boldin this past week will be tempted to bench a wide receiver with a more favorable matchup in hopes of getting similar production from Boldin again. This could hinder your ability to win your matchup in the coming week.
If you had Boldin on your bench there was probably a reason for that. Maybe you have two better wide receivers and decided to start a running back in your flex position. This is understandable and while you missed out on a huge week from Boldin he will still give you plenty of good days in the weeks ahead. Week 2 is not one of those weeks.
The San Francisco 49ers are going up the coast to take on the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks are 59-29 in their home stadium and the Seahawks’ secondary is a lot better than the Green Bay Packers’ secondary. Richard Sherman is one of the best corners in the NFL and he will likely draw Boldin on most snaps. This could be trouble for Kaepernick and Boldin and their fantasy owners.
If Boldin is one of your two best options at receiver then by all means go with him in your lineup. If you didn’t start him last week, or see a more favorable option at receiver, then feel free to bench Boldin this week and look for a more favorable matchup where Boldin will go back to being the human vacuum cleaner. Don’t feel forced into starting Boldin based on last week’s performance.
