2013 Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: D Andre Benoit

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

In fantasy hockey, there are never enough defensemen that can contribute on a weekly basis. Most defenders get more comfortable in their role as the season moves on and their point totals start to plateau. However, one defender worth taking a shot on this fantasy season is Andre Benoit of the Colorado Avalanche.

Benoit has not scored a goal yet this season, but the 29-year-old has already added four assists. He has become a very offensive-minded defender and he has shown that he isn’t afraid to make a run towards the net. He is always flying through the neutral zone and is slowly becoming one of the more aggressive defenders in fantasy.

Additionally, head coach Patrick Roy loves this kid’s potential and plans to have Benoit run the team’s power-play unit from behind the blueline. He has already racked up two power-play assists through the first nine games of the young season and has been locked into his role with a man advantage.

Benoit is a great waiver wire addition in any format that starts more than one defender. He will get a steady dose of minutes on the power play and will always be around the puck. If you can find this defenseman on the wire right now, don’t hesitate to take a shot on him.
