2013 Fantasy Football: RB Willis McGahee No Longer Worth Starting

In his third game with the Cleveland Browns, RB Willis McGahee ripped off 72 rushing yards and scored a touchdown. He looked like he was going to have a resurgent fantasy season, despite being picked up by the Browns in the middle of the year. He instantly became a very popular free agent pickup in all fantasy football formats and everyone was raving about his goal-line potential.

In the three games since, however, McGahee has been absolutely worthless from a fantasy perspective. He has averaged an embarrassing 34.6 yards per game and has not scored a single touchdown. He is averaging just 2.7 yards per carry this season and the 32-year-old seems to be tired by the time he reaches the line of scrimmage.

McGahee is simply too old to be an every down back anymore and he is already starting to lose carries to backup Chris Ogbonnaya. O-Dog has looked much better running the ball and has conversely averaged 5.3 yards per carry this season. It is only a matter of time until the team starts to give more of McGahee’s carries over to Ogbonnaya, which will cause the veteran’s value to drop even more.

McGahee’s value basically comes from his touchdown production, and if he isn’t scoring, he isn’t worth starting.  There are receivers that can produce more points from a flex position, so it officially time to get McGahee out of your lineup.
