The fantasy football season is quickly approaching. Drafts will be kicking off any week now and there are several different directions to take your team in. To help you identify the true superstars, here are the top-five fantasy football MVP candidates for the 2014 season.

5. WR Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions

Johnson has the potential to singlehandedly win a fantasy matchup any given week, which is shocking considering he is a wideout. Megatron is the only wideout worth grabbing in the first round and will occasionally outscore some of the better fantasy quarterbacks. He is the only WR that truly has MVP potential.

4. QB Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos

Manning has averaged 316.8 passing yards and 2.9 touchdowns per game since heading to the Broncos. He broke the touchdowns record (55 TDs) again in 2013 and threw a career-high 5,477 yards. Manning has earned the top spot among fantasy signal callers and will be in the conversation of MVP all year long.

3. RB Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs

Charles was a fantasy monster last season. He scored an incredible 19 total touchdowns (12 rushing/7 receiving) to go along with 1,980 all-purpose yards. However, there will likely be a small decline after a season like that. JC will still be among the top-three backs and a dark horse to win the fantasy MVP, but I wouldn't expect him to finish as the number one back again in 2014.

2. RB LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles

McCoy led the NFL with 1,607 rushing yards last season. He thrived under the tutelage of H.C. Chip Kelly and the offensive genius will continue to feed McCoy the ball game after game. Another 1,600-yard season seems all but guaranteed for Shady McCoy and the superstar will be in the conversation for the fantasy MVP Trophy until Week 17.

1. RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings

Peterson's 1,200 yards and 10 TDs last season was widely viewed as disappointment, but AP still put up top-five numbers. He played through nagging injuries all year and the death of his son certainly impacted his midseason totals. Luckily, Peterson is ready to reclaim the top spot in fantasy in 2014. He should have no problem racking up 1,600 yards with double-digit TDs this fall on his way to winning yet another fantasy MVP trophy.
