Fantasy Football Week 1 Dud: Frank Gore

Each year, many expect Frank Gore‘s productivity to go down, but the veteran continues to produce in and out of fantasy football leagues. Gore’s ability to run over defensive linemen is second to none. While Carlos Hyde is edging Gore’s heels in the depth chart, Gore owners shouldn’t be worried at all. It seems like a common thing, but the San Francisco 49ers consistently give the Miami product at least 15 touches a game.

Perhaps the best thing about Gore is his value to the team. When the 49ers are trying to run clock at the end of the game, Gore’s running style allows him to break tackles and beat opponents when they’re tired. In their opening matchup against the Dallas Cowboys, Gore didn’t have the best game, but that does not mean his owners should worry. The 31-year-old carried the ball 16 times for 66 yards. Many were expecting a big game from Gore because of his matchup, but because of a blowout, Gore wasn’t really needed in this one. Another thing is that because of the blowout, the 49ers gave a ton of carries to Hyde. But still, that should not alarm Gore owners.

Going forward, Gore will be matched up against one of the worst rushing defenses last season in the Chicago Bears. The 49ers will be playing a more evenly-matched team next week so this will mean more opportunities for Gore. Although he dudded his first game of the 2014 season, Gore is going to pay huge dividends for his owners in 2014. Don’t give up on the tenth-year veteran just yet.
