Fantasy Football Week 2 Waiver Wire Pickup: E.J. Manuel

E.J. Manuel

In what was possibly the most surprising game of the week, the Buffalo Bills were able to come away with an overtime victory on the road against the Chicago Bears.

With Nathaniel Hackett running his reliable offense, second-year quarterback E.J. Manuel has the makings to break out in 2014. The Bills went out in the offseason and brought in a dynamic weapon in Sammy Watkins via the draft. Because of his ability to throw the football and scramble around the pocket, Manuel has a nice skill set to be a solid quarterback in all fantasy football leagues. In their matchup against the Bills, Manuel completed 16 passes out of 22 attempts for 173 yards and a touchdown. While he also threw an interception, it should be said that he also had a rushing touchdown.

While Watkins will develop into a great player in the league, Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin will be entering their second professional season, and both are developing into key players for this Bills team. With C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson in the backfield, the Bills have a variety of different plays that could benefit Manuel. With two dangerous running backs in the backfield, Manuel will face a ton of single coverage in the secondary.

Going forward, Manuel will have some favorable matchups at home against the Miami Dolphins and the San Diego Chargers. If you’re looking for a guy who could be a solid backup in case of an emergency, Manuel is most certainly a solid option.
