Fantasy Football: Top 5 TE Plays In Week 2

The clear-cut top choice at TE last week in fantasy football was Julius Thomas, as he finished with seven catches for 104 yards and three touchdowns. Excellent performances were also turned in by Vernon Davis, Greg Olsen, Martellus Bennett and Zach Ertz. Let's take a look at who I feel will be the top five fantasy TEs for Week 2.

(Prices are based off FanDuel salary-cap leagues)

The Philadelphia Eagles lived up to their preseason promise to increase Zach Ertz's involvement in the offense during Week 1. In a game where the Eagles struggled mightily during the first half, Ertz ended up getting targeted four times for three catches, 77 yards and a touchdown. He should see even more targets against an Indianapolis Colts team that had major issues stopping Julius Thomas last week. Ertz is perfectly setup for a good game.

Even though he only registered four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown last week, Rob Gronkowski led all New England Patriots with 11 targets. This trend will continue throughout the season, especially in the Patriots' Week 2 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings had a rather easy matchup last week against the St. Louis Rams offense, but the Patriots are a different beast. I expected Gronk to grab eight balls for 85 yards and a TD.

3. Vernon Davis - San Francisco 49ers ($6,800)

If it weren't for the three-TD performance of Julius Thomas, it would have been Vernon Davis finishing as Week 1's top TE. He was targeted six times and recorded four catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns. While I don't expect another two-TD performance this week against the Chicago Bears, Davis should still be good for about five catches, 65 yards and a red zone touchdown. He is a safe option against a weak Chicago Bears defense.

2. Julius Thomas - Denver Broncos ($8,100)

The No. 1 TE from last week should have another great game in Week 2 against a Kansas City Chiefs defense that has issues guarding the TE. The Chiefs gave up a touchdown to Delanie Walker, TE for the Tennessee Titans, last week and Walker was only targeted four times. Thomas was targeted twice as much in his game and should see the same amount of targets in this matchup. He won't get three TDs, but two isn't out of the question.

1. Jimmy Graham - New Orleans Saints ($8,000)

The only thing disappointing about Jimmy Graham's Week 1 was the fact that he didn't catch a TD to complement his eight catches and 82 receiving yards. It was a productive day, but not enough for him to finish Week 1 as a top five TE. This will change today against the Cleveland Browns and I firmly project Graham to finish with another eight receptions for over 100 yards and at least two TDs. He will do in Week 2 what Julius Thomas did last week.
