Fantasy Football Week 4 Projections: RB LeSean McCoy

This has been a very surprising 2014 fantasy football season. Players are getting suspended or are missing valuable time while dealing with injuries. Some other running backs aren’t playing to their draft-day value and are costing owners wins. Philadelphia Eagles‘ star rusher LeSean McCoy is in the latter, but is still a must start.

McCoy was a consensus top-three pick with some experts ranking him as the overall No. 1 pick because of the Eagles offense. However, after three weeks, McCoy ranks as the 16th-best running back in ESPN.com standard scoring leagues. His new teammate Darren Sproles ranks seventh.

McCoy was banged up early in Week 3 as he took a hit to the head in the first quarter, but came back. He finished that game with 19 carries for just 22 yards. The Week 3 game turned into a shootout and both teams abandoned the running game.

The Eagles have a tough Week 4 matchup, traveling west to face the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers have one of the best rush defenses, allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs. Despite the recent struggles by McCoy, fantasy owners may not have a choice but to start him. There are six teams on a bye week, which means Marshawn LynchMontee BallZac StacyGiovani BernardTerrance West and Andre Ellington are all unavailable.

It may be hard to start McCoy this week after seeing him miss some time last week, but he is the No. 1 guy in Philly.

Projection: 20 carries, 74 yards and one touchdown, three receptions, 21 yards (15 points).
