Fantasy Football Week 4: Sit Stevan Ridley

Stevan Ridley Fantasy Football

Another week of fantasy football is upon us and with it brings the hours of line tinkering, hours of puzzling questions and self-doubt; and those few, rare moments of clarity where you think to start Andrew Luck against the pitiful Jacksonville Jaguars and he rewards you with a heaping pile of points. Well, your lineup woes just got a lot easier. Do not start Stevan Ridley.

Since he is on the New England Patriots, I do have a soft spot for Ridley. He is a very capable running back who has the ability to be a fantasy stud if he played for any other team in the NFL.

Sadly, he plays for the Patriots and Josh McDaniels, who still can’t figure out if he wants to be a passing offense that occasionally runs the ball or an offense that only passes and never runs the ball. Ridley, due to McDaniels identity crisis and the lack of an offensive line, has been well below all career averages so far this season. He will have a chance to right the ship against a Kansas City Chiefs’ defense that is ranked 23rd in the NFL against the run.

While Ridley might rack up the yards, scoring a touchdown is no certainty as the Chiefs’ defense hasn’t allowed a rushing touchdown in four games. Yes people, that means since last season, and I would not expect Ridley to break that streak.

If you are in dire need of a running back or have such a stacked lineup that you can live with five or six points, then Ridley could be a good option. But he’s not going to give you double digits. Instead, he’ll give you premature balding as you rip out your hair watching McDaniels call three passing plays from within the five-yard line. My recommendation: save your hair.
