Fantasy Football Start/Sit: Golden Tate Could be in Store for a Big Week 4

Golden Tate

The Detroit Lions have seemingly found a capable receiver to line up opposite of Calvin Johnson, and Golden Tate has been taking advantage of all the single coverage he is seeing. In each of his three games this season, he has at least five catches for 50 yards. Those totals could increase dramatically this week as the Lions take on the New York Jets. Tate is a solid WR3 with potential WR2 upside. Start him on Sunday.

It’s a tasty matchup for the Lions as the Jets secondary is awful. The Jets are only allowing 55 yards on the ground, and they will force Matthew Stafford to beat them through the air. I would expect them to do that. Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler certainly took advantage of the Jets secondary, a unit that is stuck playing safeties at the cornerback position. If the Jets are unable to get any sort of pressure on Stafford, the Lions could have a field day, and Tate could be a main beneficiary.

Other than the juicy matchup this week, Johnson’s injury concerns remain a huge question mark. Johnson did practice today, but it is unknown how effective he will be with his ankle injury. Should he miss the game, or should his performance be hindered by his sprained ankle, it’s quite possible to see Tate become the primary target for Stafford and the Lions’ pass-happy offense.

Tate is on pace for career highs in the Lions’ system, and I would expect him to increase his productivity this weekend. You should feel confident with him in your starting lineup.
