Fantasy Football Week 4 Start or Sit: Arian Foster

Hamstring injuries are perhaps one of the most difficult injuries to gauge for fantasy owners, as there is always a high-risk for the injury to resurface if a player comes back too early. This will be the case Sunday for owners of Houston Texans‘ running back Arian Foster.

Foster is considered day-to-day with a hamstring injury and will likely be a gametime decision when the Texans take on the Buffalo Bills. According to sources, Foster will work out prior to Sunday’s game to see if he can give it a go. However, I believe the right thing for fantasy owners to do here is stay clear of the former fantasy superstar.

Foster really won’t know if he can run full speed, make the appropriate cuts down field, and be capable of his normal running back duties until just about an hour from game time. I just don’t see how No. 29 will be a strong fantasy play this week. Even if Head Coach Bill O’Brien allows Foster to go, I don’t see him getting the majority of carries. Instead, I see O’Brien using the dreaded running back by committee approach after the Texans ran the ball effectively last week with backup Alfred Blue.

Blue went for 78 yards on 13 carries last week against the New York Giants, a rather impressive line, considering the Giants were laying the beatdown on the Texans all game, and really didn’t run the ball.

In addition, the Bills have a more than solid defense, which will also limit Foster’s upside. Buffalo currently ranks 5th in the NFL at stopping the run allowing a stout 83.o yards per game. That does not bode well for Foster, who should be benched in all leagues this week.

Don’t expect to see him find the end zone or total more than 50 yards on the ground.
