Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Pickup: QB Mike Glennon

Mike Glennon

After beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road in Week 4, it is clear that Mike Glennon is the best starting quarterback option going forward for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Josh McCown tore a ligament in his thumb, but regardless of his injury, the 35 year old wasn’t playing that well. The move before the season to start McCown over Glennon was an interesting one considering the fact that McCown was a career backup. That said, Glennon showed why he is capable of being a starting quarterback on Sunday.

Despite starting the season 0-3, the Buccaneers have some good weapons at the skill positions. Running back Doug Martin is one of the best backs in the league in the running and passing games, and the combination of Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson is most certainly a good one. The Buccaneers drafted Evans in the top 10, and Jackson is annually one of the league’s best receivers.

You can’t forget Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who is another rookie who has a ton of upside to be a quality tight end in this league.

With bye weeks looming, picking up Glennon off the waiver wire wouldn’t be a bad idea. It seems that he has a good grasp of this offense, and has made a great effort to limit the turnovers, staying turnover-free against the Steelers. Glennon has a solid arm, and his mechanics have improved since last year.

Don’t expect him to turn into the next Peyton Manning, but Glennon is a serviceable quarterback who can get you consistent fantasy points week in and week out.
