Matt Ryan Week 5 Fantasy Projection

QB Matt Ryan, or “Matty Ice,” is looking at a bounce-back fantasy year. In 2012, he was amazing, having career bests in every statistical category. In 2013, he certainly fell off the wagon, but in the 2014 season, he’s off to a great start. He’s third in total fantasy points among quarterbacks, and that’s having played one less game than Aaron Rodgers, who’s second.

Over the course of the season, he’s averaged about 21 points per game, which is fantastic if you took him in the latter rounds of your draft. The one game where he “disappointed” was against the Cincinnati Bengals, one of the best defenses in the league. But this week he is not playing a team at the same caliber as the Bengals. This week, he and the Atlanta Falcons are playing the New York Giants.

The New York Giants are 2-2 overall, and go into Sunday’s game hoping for a win. Unfortunately, their two wins have come against bad quarterbacks (Ryan Fitzpatrick and Kirk Cousins), which Matty Ice is not. Matthew Stafford had a field day against the Giants’ secondary, and even Drew Stanton had a fine game against them (yeah, I’m not quite sure who Drew Stanton is either). Now that their receivers are healthy and the run game is good, Ryan should have a fine performance against the Giants. Don’t forget that the offensive line is tuned up and that their depth at running back leads to more breakout plays, which will only help Ryan’s performance.

In conclusion, Matt Ryan is a must-start for this week, due to the past performances of their opponent against quality quarterbacks, and the current health and form that his offensive teammates are in.

Matt Ryan’s Week 5 Projection: 25-for-33, 280 yards and two touchdowns.
