Fantasy Football Week 5: Miles Austin Looks to Add to Touchdown Streak

Miles Austin Start or Sit Fantasy Football Week 5

Over the first three weeks of the Cleveland Browns‘ 2014 season, 30-year old WR Miles Austin has been a pleasant surprise in fantasy football. In Week 1, Austin only had two catches for 20 yards, but in Weeks 2 and 3, he combined for a total of 12 catches for 95 yards and two TDs. Those numbers aren’t out of this world, but they’re definitely decent enough to start Austin as a WR3 in any league format.

While TE Jordan Cameron has been out with a sprained AC joint in his shoulder, 6-foot-1, 215 pound WR Austin has been used as Brian Hoyer‘s big target in the passing game and this strategy has paid respectable dividends for his fantasy owners. Austin is currently second on his team in targets (19) behind 5-foot-7, 180 pound, fourth-year WR Andrew Hawkins, who’s seen 33 passes thrown his way, but the more experienced receiver has earned the trust of Hoyer in the red zone.

With Cameron set to return in Week 5 against a struggling Tennessee Titans team, Hoyer will have another big target to throw to in the red zone, but both teams will probably reach this area a good number of times, since they’ve each allowed more than 25 PPG on the defensive end. Sunday’s Browns-Titans game won’t be a start-studded affair with marquee QBs as the headliners, but since both of these one-win teams have struggled mightily on the defensive end, expect Hoyer and Titan’s QB Jake Locker to get into a shoot-out.

If you own Austin in your fantasy league, this might actually be the last good week to get a decent start out of him since Cameron’s gameday fitness is still a bit of a question at this point. All quarterbacks like to find a rhythm with their targets, and right now, the Hoyer-to-Austin connection seems to be the best bet in regards to touchdowns.

Start Austin at the flex position if you are limited on options on your fantasy team because he’ll probably reward you with a score as he looks to keep his TD-streak alive against a weak opponent.
