Fantasy Football Week 6 Sleeper: Ronnie Hillman

Ronnie Hillman

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The running back position gets thinner and thinner week after week. The newest running back who will be getting a start this season is Denver Broncos No. 2 rusher Ronnie Hillman. In Week 6, with a lot of other rushers injured and not playing well, Hillman has the chance to have a breakout game.

Broncos leading rusher Montee Ball injured his groin last week and will miss at least two games. Hillman finished the game and played well in relief. He had 15 carries for 64 yards (4.26 yards per carry). While Juwan Thompson scored an eight-yard touchdown, Hillman got the majority of the carries.

Hillman and the Broncos will face the the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers in the two games Ball is expected to miss. The Jets defense is one of the best in the league. However, this is the same Jets defense that allowed Branden Oliver to rush for 114 yards. So, Hillman could follow in Oliver’s footsteps, especially with the defense focusing on Peyton Manning.

Hillman isn’t expected to carry the whole load as Thompson and C.J. Anderson will have some touches. If Hillman plays well, he could start over Ball for the rest of the season. In Week 3, Ball had 14 carries for 38 yards, two receptions for six yards and a fumble. He has one touchdown on the season. Hillman may not be a sleeper just for this week, but for the rest of the season.

Manning and the Broncos will have no trouble racking up the score in this game. This will allow Hillman to run the clock down with a multitude of carries and rack up his yardage total.

While I wouldn’t start Hillman this week, he is worth picking up for depth just in case Ball doesn’t get the job back.
