Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Antone Smith

RB Antone Smith Fantasy Football Week 6 Waiver Wire

Make Antone Smith a priority pickup this week. If you don’t already believe in the Atlanta Falcons‘ RB3, it’s about time you should. He proved that this week with another productive outing against the Chicago Bears. Normally, I wouldn’t advise investing in players who are hit or miss like Smith. Those players will give you great production one week and give you limited production in the next group of games. But Smith is a rare breed that’s hard to pass up on.

Smith is like a revolver loaded with one bullet that is magically fired each week. In the last six games, he’s scored on 30+ yard strikes in five games — including his last four performances. As a running back, you’d imagine his scores would come off the ground, but he’s more prone to a receiving score. He’s had three receiving TDs, all at least 40 yards. It’s rare to see a player score double-digit plays on a consistent basis. With that consistency, he’ll be getting more touches throughout the season’s course.

Coach Mike Smith was quoted before last week’s game saying Antone would see more touches soon. He increased the total to six touches (Smith’s earlier high mark was four touches). While that’s not a significant margin, it did give him two more opportunities that he never had before. Now that he’s found the end zone this many times, the Falcons will keep increasing the workload. That doesn’t mean he’ll score multiple times in a game, necessarily. But it does mean he has more attempts at making a break, where teams are likely to start figuring out how to stop him.

So go ahead, take the plunge for Smith. He’s becoming a hot commodity that’s currently owned in about 30 percent of leagues, but that number should increase exponentially.
