Fantasy Football Week 7 Waiver Wire Pickup: Austin Davis

At this point in the season, most Fantasy Football owners have their quarterback situation under control. With that said, there is always the possibility that the starting signal caller’s production output is not getting the job done. If that may be the case, St. Louis Rams quarterback Austin Davis is definitely worth a waiver wire pickup in Week 7.

It is true Davis only put up 13 points against a stingy San Francisco 49ers defense. However, his numbers have been off the charts in recent weeks. In Week 4 and Week 5, he combined for 702 passing yards, six touchdowns and two interceptions. And, it was not as if the stellar performances came against two untalented teams. The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles have a combined 10-2 record, and Davis nearly led the Rams to victory against both of them. More importantly, he combined for 59 fantasy points in those two contests, which is the real number fantasy owners want to see.

There is no question Davis will fail to put up consistent performances every week. The biggest reason for that is because of his inexperience. It also does not help that the offensive weapons around him have also lacked consistency. With that said, wide receivers Brian Quick and Kenny Britt are building a solid relationship with the young signal caller, which should pay dividends at some point this season.

If owners need a quarterback in Week 7, it is not the worst idea to start Davis. Sure, the Seattle Seahawks have a terrifying defense. At the same time, they have not been anywhere near the level they were last year. In fact, the Seahawks are surrendering 252.2 passing yards per game and have given up 10 passing touchdowns in five contests. With the Rams at home, Davis may be able to work his magic and provide owners with a worthy performance.
