Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickup: RB Tre Mason

After being active for the first time this season — last week against the San Francisco 49ersTre Mason got some touches in his first professional game. That led to some additions in deeper fantasy football leagues. After Week 7, Mason made it clear that he will be the most sought-after waiver wire pickup in fantasy leagues across the country. Against the Seattle Seahawks, who have one of the best run defenses in the league, Mason carried the football 18 times for 85 yards and a touchdown.

With the performance, Mason is now the new bellcow for the St. Louis Rams. With Zac Stacy failing to really do anything this year, Mason’s play in just two games has spoken levels to offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. Although it is a small sample size, Mason’s willingness to bang in the middle of the field and his superb field vision makes him an explosive running option. Behind an offensive line that consists of Jake Long, Rodger Saffold and the No. 2 pick of the 2014 NFL Draft in Greg Robinson, Mason will have open running holes.

With Austin Davis making good decisions at the quarterback position, Mason’s fantasy value will be solid in the coming weeks. Although Mason will be going up against tough run defenses in the next two weeks against the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, the Rams will stay loyal to the run, and that means you should stay committed to Mason. The running back position is easily the thinnest in fantasy football and when a player emerges out of nowhere, it is worth it to use a high waiver on him. If you have a high waiver for Week 7, grab Mason at all costs. The 2014 Heisman candidate will only improve and the sky is the limit for him and your fantasy football playoff prospects.
