Fantasy Football Week 8 Waiver Wire Pickup: WR Doug Baldwin

Doug Baldwin

Scott Kane-USA TODAY Sports

Despite the upset loss, the Seattle Seahawks have all of the pieces in place to make it back to the playoffs and defend their title. Doug Baldwin is now the team’s No. 1 wide receiver and will be worth owning for the rest of the season.

The Seahawks made a shocking move (or not, depending on who you ask) and traded Percy Harvin to the New York Jets for a conditional 2015 NFL draft pick. Harvin was an integral part of the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl. Now that he’s gone, the receiving corps is now Baldwin, Jermaine Kearse and Ricardo Lockette.

In his first game as the No. 1 guy, Baldwin put up great numbers. He caught seven passes for 123 yards and a touchdown. This was his first 100-yard game since Week 5 of 2011.

The Seahawks plan to forget about the loss to the St. Louis Rams and focus on their next game. The Seahawks travel east to face the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers allowed Randall Cobb to rack up 121 yards and a score, Jordy Nelson and Devonte Adams each had a score as well.

Baldwin should have been picked up right after the Harvin trade announcement was made. Yet, he is still available in 80.6 percent of ESPN.com leagues and 69.1 percent of NFL.com leagues.

The Seahawks schedule is pretty favorable over the next three weeks, Panthers, Oakland Raiders and New York Giants. If you need help at the wide receiver position, whether it’s with bye weeks or injury concerns, Baldwin should be your No. 1 target on the waiver wire.
