Fantasy Football Deep Sleeper: RB Charles Sims

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have one of the worst rushing offenses in the league. With two inconsistent running backs, the Bucs can use a boost on the ground. Lucky for them, rookie running back Charles Sims is on his way to return and could provide a lift to Tampa Bay’s offense.

Sims was drafted in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft. After a successful training camp, the Bucs played Sims on the IR-designated to return at the end of August. Sims would have been a spark the Bucs needs to break away in the NFC South. In college, he had 5.9 rushing yards per carry and totaled 40 touchdowns.

This season, the Bucs rushing attack has not performed well. The team has not topped 100 rushing yards in any game this season. In seven games, the team averages 86.4 rushing yards per game, 29th in the league. Bobby Rainey and Doug Martin rank 30th and 60th in fantasy, respectively.

Sims is an excellent pass-catcher, something that Martin is not. Martin has just nine receptions on the season. Rainey, on the other hand, isn’t too bad in the passing game, catching 22 passes. In his four years of college, Sims racked up 203 receptions for 2,108 yards.

Martin enters Week 9 questionable as he’s dealing with an ankle injury. If he can’t practice this week, expect Sims to be activated earlier than expected. If he has a chance of playing pick him up. With plenty of running backs getting injured throughout the season, the list of available rushers in very thin. When Sims is officially activated, he will be the best running back on the Buccaneers.
