Fantasy Football Week 10 Start Or Sit: Vernon Davis

Vernon Davis Week 10 Start Sit

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY Sports

Vernon Davis was a fantasy football stud last season at tight end and likely rewarded owners who drafted him with fantasy titles due to his 13 receiving touchdowns. This season, however, he has yet to catch for even 45 yards in a game and has been held without a touchdown for five straight games. Despite six teams having byes this weekend, he has to remain on your fantasy bench until he can prove that last year wasn’t a fluke.

Davis is coming off consecutive two-catch games, where he averaged 20 yards per game. Against a Chicago Bears team that is giving up the most fantasy points to the tight end position, he managed only three catches for 39 yards. He has been brutal so far this season and any team that wasted a high draft pick to select him is likely pulling their hair out wondering what went wrong.

The San Francisco 49ers are the New Orleans Saints this weekend in a game that seems like it might be a good matchup on paper. The Saints allow the sixth most passing yards per game in the NFL. However, they have allowed the second fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends and are tied with two other teams in allowing a league-best one touchdown to the tight end position.

The Saints dominance this year thus far against the tight end position, coupled with the struggles that Vernon Davis has already endured this season, requires that he remain on your bench this week in favor of other waiver-wire targets such as Mychal Rivera, Travis Kelce or even Jace Amaro.
