Fantasy Football Week 11 Start or Sit: Brian Hoyer

Don’t look now, but the Cleveland Browns sit atop the AFC North thanks in large part to starting quarterback Brian Hoyer far exceeding expectations and becoming a viable NFL starter through nine games for his team and fantasy owners.

In guiding his team to a 6-3 record, Hoyer has been able to fend off Johnny Manziel for good with his playmaking efficiency and by making smart decisions about where to go with the football. Perhaps what’s even more impressive is that Hoyer has been able to achieve a high level of effectiveness with a very limited supporting cast in his receiving corps.

Although Cleveland’s success as a team has been largely based on playing defense and running the football, the Browns’ remaining schedule sets up very nicely for Hoyer to be considered a legit fantasy option moving forward, starting with the Houston Texans in Week 11.

The Texans are allowing 273.8 yards per game through the air, the third-worst mark in the entire NFL. That bodes well for Hoyer owners. With Ryan Mallett set to make his Texans debut on Sunday, it’s seems inevitable that the former New England Patriot and Arkansas Razorback will turn the ball over as he shakes off his rust from riding the bench. That means Hoyer will have several opportunities to move the Browns into scoring position.

I expect Andrew Hawkins, Miles Austin and whichever no-name receiver the Browns put on the field next to step up and be able to make plays on a secondary that can definitely be had. Additionally, it’s certain that Houston will game-plan to stop the Browns’ three-headed monster at running back of Ben Tate, Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell. This will leave man coverage across the board for No. 6. Start him with some confidence!

Kyle’s Bold Prediction: 19-for-24, 274 passing yards, two touchdowns.
