One of the biggest surprises of the 2014 fantasy football season has been the success of the players of the Arizona Cardinals. The team suffered countless setbacks throughout the regular season, but they still managed to limp into the playoffs with an 11-5 record.
Unfortunately, injuries have finally started to catch up with this team, as they have lost the past two contests by a combined score of 55-23. Quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton suffered serious injuries and have been shutdown for the rest of the season. In their stead, Ryan Lindley has been left to lead this squad, which does not bode well for the team’s chances this postseason.
Lindley has been a mess since taking over. He has averaged a meager 266 passing yards in his two starts, while throwing two touchdowns with four interceptions. He simply hasn’t looked like a professional signal caller and his lackluster numbers will impact every fantasy weapon in the passing game, including Michael Floyd, Larry Fitzgerald and John Brown.
The running game won’t fair much better. The team lost Andre Ellington for the season due to sports hernia and foot injures, which has left the team to lean on the inexperienced Kerwynn Williams. The Utah State rookie has looked promising at times, but he is far from a RB2 in the FFPC.
The defense, or any Arizona IDP options, will be a strong weekly play, but they likely will only be a one-time starter. They could cause a couple of turnovers and even score a touchdown, but the likelihood of them being knocked out in the first round takes all the value out of the defense as well.
It is only a matter of time until someone brings this team back down to earth, and I honestly don’t see them winning their Wild Card contest. Fantasy fans should make sure to avoid all of the Cardinals in the FFPC this January, because I think their luck will finally run out against the Panthers this Saturday.
