Fantasy Football Week 13 Waiver Wire Pickup: DeVante Parker

DeVante Parker, fantasy football, Miami Dolphins

DeVante Parker was the third wide receiver taken in the 2015 NFL Draft, but a lingering foot injury derailed his progress for much of this season. With Rishard Matthews (ribs) out indefinitely, and the Miami Dolphins possibly looking toward 2016 in earnest, Parker is in line to start Week 13 against the Baltimore Ravens and probably beyond.

Parker had a bit of a breakout game against the New York Jets in Week 12, with four receptions (on 10 targets) for 80 yards and a touchdown. With an increased role coming, Parker finally belongs on the radar of fantasy football owners.

Week 13 is shaping up as a very favorable matchup for Parker, since Baltimore enters this week allowing the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers (26.9 per game, ESPN scoring). That includes multiple touchdowns to the position in five of their last six games, and the Ravens are tough against the run so Dolphins’ quarterback Ryan Tannehill may be forced to throw the ball plenty on Sunday.

No other remaining matchup stands out as incredibly favorable for Parker, but in particular Week 16 (Indianapolis Colts) and Week 17 (New England Patriots) stand out as games where the Dolphins could be trailing and forced to throw a lot. Based on that potential target volume, Parker could produce notable numbers. It might be garbage time production, much like it was last week, but it all counts and fantasy owners don’t have to apologize if Parker is an asset.

Parker is nothing more than a risk/reward WR3 for Week 13, and he’s far from an every week fantasy starter over the final few weeks of the season. But he is roster-worthy in 12 and 14-team leagues now, even as a simple bench stash that might be usable, and if you’re in a keeper league Parker should be on your radar as an addition with bigger things in mind for next year.
