Texas Rangers Keep Starting Pitcher Colby Lewis via 2012 Team Option

By Jeric Griffin

The Texas Rangers will have starting right-hander Colby Lewis for at least one more season as the club exercised its 2012 team option on Lewis’ contract Monday. If the Rangers had declined the option, Lewis would be a free agent following the team’s loss in the 2011 World Series. Lewis will earn $3.25 million in 2012 as a Ranger.

Lewis pitched Games 2 and 6 for the Rangers in the World Series, one loss and one win in what should have been two Texas victories. As the Rangers’ most consistent postseason starter, Lewis will become Texas’ ace in 2012 if starting left-hander CJ Wilson does not re-sign. Wilson is currently a free agent.
