Giants Lose Finale, But Take Series Over Atlanta.

By Parker Perry

The San Francisco Giants (51-41) are on a bit of a role.

Despite losing the final game of the three game series against the Atlanta Braves (50-41), they took the series by winning the first two games and are now 5-1 dating back to the start of the second half of the season.

In the series against Atlanta, as predicted, the Giant pitching was just too much for Atlanta and was the major reason why the team from the west coast was able to overcome the team from the south.

In the first game of the series, the Giants routed the Braves 9-0. Barry Zito (8-6) and Buster Posey were the men of the hour. The  lefty went seven innings deep and only allowed three hits in total. He lowered his ERA this year to 3.75 and has become a viable part of the dominate San Francisco rotation.

Posey got the job done with his bat. While guiding Zito behind the plate to seven strong, he also contributed five RBI. The young catcher is having a great season, as he is hitting  .308 so far this season.

Friday night was not the only night Posey came through for the team. He was also 3-for-4 on Saturday. Though he did not play all eleven innings that the game took to declare a winner.

The game was tied at one a piece at the end on the ninth, when both teams more than doubled their score in the tenth. However, they both scored two runs pushing the game even further. It was finally in the eleventh when two homer runs by Brandon Crawford and Gregor Blanco.

Ryan Vogelsong pitched well also. He went six innings and only allowed a single run. However his offense was not up to the task to get him a win.

Now the Giants will make its way to Philadelphia. The Phillies (41-52) are currently  4-2 since the All Star break. They will be facing their toughest task when they take the diamond this weekend at Citizen Banks Park.
