Even though Zack Greinke is rumored to stay in Los Angeles (Dodgers OR Angels), the Texas Rangers are not out of the sweepstakes just yet. According to a source, the Rangers are going to do everything they can to convince Greinke to come south and pitch for the Rangers. Nolan Ryan will likely try and convince him that Texas will protect his career and give him a chance to win every year.

Greinke is obviously the prize of the winter from the pitching perspective, and every team that can afford him will want him. As the biggest named pitcher available on the free agent market, Greinke is sure to draw interest from a number of clubs. Due to that fact, he may be the beneficiary of a good old fashioned bidding war between multiple clubs. If that were to happen, it will certainly help his wallet. The Rangers apparently have some money to spend, and Greinke could be the main reason why they won’t give Josh Hamilton what he wants. While they are not averse to bigtime signings, the Rangers are not a team that just throws money around. They are more conservative with their contracts.

If Greinke does indeed sign with the Rangers, it’ll give them one of the best rotations (if not THE best) in baseball.

We’ll see where Greinke’s head is at right now as he’s going to be courted tremendously by several teams.

We’ll continue to update you on this developing story, as well as the rest of the Winter Meetings.
