Matt Dominguez is All Houston Astros Need at Third Base Position

There are so many great stories starting to develop in Houston Astros camp that it’s hard to keep up with them all. Matt Dominguez is yet another such story. Dominguez came over last season in a trade. He wasn’t much with his former team in part time work but as soon as he came to the Astros he lit things up. The few games he got to play were far from wasted on the team’s general manager and future manager.

Bo Porter has said already that Dominguez is his everyday third baseman. It’s over. There are competitions all over the diamond for this squad but there is not one at third base. That belongs to Dominguez. For a young player such as he is, that must be a giant boost in confidence. Not only does Porter say that, he also speaks very highly of the third baseman’s glove work. He said without pause that Dominguez could easily win ten gold gloves. He is that good in the field.

The only question marks have hovered around his bat. Those questions might have been answered in the few games from last season. Considering the number he posted in 30 games last season – including almost a run per game played – he could be ready to show everyone that Porter’s confidence is far from wasted. I’d predict a .300 average with 15 to 20 homers and over 60 runs batted in. This kid could hit next spring training as one of the better young third baseman in baseball.
