Miami Marlins Rumors: Placido Polanco Will Be Traded Before Michael Young

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Michael Young cleared waivers recently and now can be traded by the team instead of having another team claim him. However, like we all saw at the end of July, trading Young is not going to be a piece of cake. Young has a no-trade clause and is very picky about which team he gets traded to.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox were two of the teams that Young would have liked to get traded to, but a deal was not struck. Now that the Phillies are even more out of the NL East and Wild Card race, this would be the perfect time to get Young to a contender and get a prospect or two in return.

Philadelphia would need to strike fast because there is another veteran on the market that a team could scoop up as a nice piece off the bench, or who could be used as a platoon at third base.

Miami Marlins third baseman Placido Polanco is an underrated commodity that a team like the Yankees, Red Sox or even the Detroit Tigers could use. Polanco is 37-years-old, but his talent is being wasted on a team like the Marlins, who are not in any kind of playoff race and are just trying not to finish the season with the worst record in the league.

This season, Polanco is batting .260/.316/.301 with nine doubles and 20 RBIs in 86 games. He is doing a bit better than last season with the Phillies, and his veteran experience could help any team.

Polanco was replaced at third base by Ed Lucas in the middle of the season. He is of no use to Miami.
